Xpu-ha Palace June 2006
These photos were taken the week of June 18. Palace Resorts has done a great job repairing the resort. Unfortunately, according to folks with Palace Resorts, the land on the ocean side was lost in a land dispute. You can see that the property was damaged, but certainly not beyond repair. The area on the ocean side is being guarded by a guard who told me that Palace no longer owned that part of the property. We were told that a clothing company now owns it and that there is no land access to that part of the property. The company is obviously not doing anything with it as everything looks just as it did after the hurricanes hit. For its part, Palace Resorts has done a great job restoring the portions it still owns. Most of the inland resort actually looks much nicer than it used to. The pool area is sits in a narrow strip that has the feeling of a de-militarized zone. You can see in the photos that Palace has erected a three story fence that wasn't quite complete when we were there. They actually cut rooms in half on the property line!
